OEM Redistribution License

Deploy at any scale outside your organization.

Sly Technologies products have many free and demo users, especially jNetPcap open source. We fund the open source development by selling the enhanced OEM editions of both jNetPcap and all our other software. These special versions includes enterprise features such as pro APIs and commercial support as well as special license rights allowing customers to redistribute our OEM software with their products. The primary differences between the OEM and the free/demo releases are:

  • Redistribution rights -- While Companies purchase the OEM Redistribution License so they can include it within the products that they distribute outside their own organization. The free/demo software does not normally allow redistribution.

  • Commercial support -- Sly Technologies' OEM maintenance plans also include update rights so you always have access to the latest releases. We are constantly releasing updates with performance enhancements, bug fixes, and new features. The free/demo software only has free community support available.

  • Regular updates -- the OEM maintenance plans also include update rights so you always have access to the latest releaes. We are constantly releasing updates with performance enhancements, bug fixes, and new features.

  • Continuity -- our OEM customers have a license agreement guaranteeing the availability and terms for their OEM usage, while the terms and restrictions for the free license change from time to time. Licensing revenue also funds continued development and improvement of our open-source jNetPcap and free license software.

  • OEM branding -- our OEM software reports itself as such in logs, so users know they have an officially licensed version of our OEM software.

This page describes the Sly Technologies OEM redistribution license for companies and organizations that wish to redistribute the OEM software outside of their organization (e.g. within their products.)  Organizations that only want to use our OEM software internally, (within your organization, including your employees, contractors, etc.) without any redistribution outside the org, qualify for the Sly Technologies OEM Internal-Usage License instead. The redistribution license already allows unlimited internal use for development and testing and usage of your product. So you only need to buy both licenses if you wanted to redistribute the OEM software in your product(s) and also use it internally in a manner unrelated to those products.

Sly Technologies OEM software releases are always made in conjunction with the corresponding free/demo releases, and the version numbers are the same.

OEM Redistribution License Prices & Terms

To keep things simple, our standard OEM license involves no per-seat royalties--just a reasonable one-time license buy-out free and an optional annual maintenance free which includes all new releases as well as commercial support. That maintenance fee never increases as long as you renew it every year. We also offer a quarterly term license which includes redistribution rights and maintenance, for a fee paid every three months, for as long as you are selling new products containing Sly Technologies OEM product. The quarterly license fee never increases either.

Prices are in U.S. Dollar (USD) based on the size of the company buying the license, broken up into four tiers. This is because larger companies are usually able to derive more value from our OEM software, by leveraging it at a greater scale. Larger companies generally cost us more to support as well. Prices are based on the whole company size, not just an individual division or development team. The prices are locked in after purchase, so they never increase as companies grow later. Companies choosing the quarterly license must either set up auto-payments or pay the automated invoices that we email to them. We can handle initial vendor on-boarding for the term license, but not individual (per payment) purchase orders, enterprise payment ports, etc.
